What is Your Motive?

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. So when you give to the poor do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.  But when you give to the poor do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:1-4 (NLT)

I want to challenge you today to examine your motives.  Are you glorifying God in your heart, or giving lip service to Him and really glorifying yourself?  We need to make sure that whether we are helping others out, giving into people’s lives, or are called to minister to churches, that we don’t allow people to praise us, the blessing is from Him.

The other day I was listening to Christine Caine speaking on the difference between a gifting and an anointing, that being, a gifting can bless people all day long but the anointing breaks the yoke.

“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:17 (NLT)

We must make sure that we are allowing God to work through us so that others see that He is at work in us, giving Him the glory.
