I am thanking God today for His word. It is sharp, powerful, and feeds us in our inner man so that we become stronger and stronger as we use it for Spiritual food. The Bible tells us that the mind of man is enmity against God. Those are really strong words. Enmity contains intense hatred. If the Bible says that is what our minds are towards God, what in the world can we do about it?
The Scripture, in ll Corinthians 5:17, tells us that when we become Christians, we are made brand new. Old things are passed away, and everything becomes new. Have you ever wondered why the manifestation of those words isn’t happening in your life? I have wondered that many times. As I have meditated on this, God has opened His word to me, and it’s causing me to understand what has to happen to eliminate this enmity and replace it with perfect love. We look at the scripture and it says the “mind of man.” Do you ever have problems with what you think? I know I do. And, as I pray about this, the Lord leads me over and over again to Romans 12:1-2 He keeps telling me that I must have a renewed mind. But how does this happen? It is only through grace and truth.
There is a word in Greek, metanoia. This word encompasses everything that needs to happen inside of us for all things to be made new. Again, it all happens in our minds. And if we want it to be permanent, it must be done by the Holy Spirit. The psychological definition of metanoia is “The process of experiencing a psychotic breakdown and positive subsequent psychological rebuilding or healing.“ The theological definition says, “Conversion and reformation or repentance.“ I believe that we must sincerely ask God for both of these. A psychological breakdown and a theological one. The way to be transformed and have a renewing of our minds comes only through the Holy Spirit. Then, as we continue to pray this prayer for change, He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask or think. But remember, God looks at the heart and not the outward appearance. We must offer ourselves to Him from the heart motive of desiring to become all He wants us to be. We must sincerely desire His will in our lives and to have it done His way.
I know that God is causing each individual who makes up the body of Christ to grow more and more discontented living a life in the flesh. He is causing a longing in each heart to become closer and closer to Him no matter what it takes. There is only one way for this to happen. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He shows us the way, He tells us the truth, and He gives us the life. Open your heart today and receive power from the wonderful Spirit of God who lives in us, to change us from having hearts full of enmity towards God, to a heart filled with His love and the delivering power that it brings. If you are having trouble with any of this, just pray this simple prayer. “Lord, I believe you, help mine unbelief” Mark 9:24.
