Soft whisper in the oaks
A song for all the country folks
Swelling in volume across the hills
With forgotten thoughts of cold and chills
Rattling in the Big Blue Stem
And the summer heat begins to dim
Carrying the mewling of the newborn
And grunting sounds from out the corn
The scree of the Red Tail Hawk
The “bobwhite” of the quail talk
A deep grunt from the bull buffalo
Delicate peace broken, caws of crow
Coyotes howling as the moonbeams fall
The wind reverberating to the call
Carrying the beautiful echo on forward
And gentle peace reigns here with the Lord
For the love of our children’s children
Their pleasure to always hear a prairie wren
With His faith we plant again His prairie seed
Knowing He will answer our prayer of need.
